Making a hole in glass pendant.

Hello all,
Has anyone had experience of drilling glass? My boss has a large modern chandelier in his house and a couple of the pendants have broken off. They're about 60mm long, and about 10mm thick, but the hole needs to be about 2mm diameter, 6mm from the edge. Thing is, I don't know a thing about glass, what glass they are, etc.
Any pointers?

I use these quite a lot for glass, mirrors and tiles, don't think I have come across one as small as 2mm although I suppose I have never required one so not searched, use them slow and wet, I make a bund around the area with blu tack and drill in a pool of water.

I'd be tempted to tell him to just buy some replacements, failing that I'd be building the missing bit back up with 2 pack epoxy and then drill the required hole in the epoxy.

I've had success with a brass rod in the pillar drill and valve grinding paste but down at 2mm the rod's going to be a bit too easy to bend.

How close are they to a bulb and how complex is the shape? Would clear polycarbonate do? or even Perspex? it's relatively easy to polish cut edges to clear with soapy wet&dry and finally polishing compound.

If he can afford a house big enough for a large glass chandelier, he's more than enough to buy a diamond drill bit, or a new chandelier for that matter

He trusts me to do everything right, so I get all the jobs other people can't do (or can't do for a decent price)!!

Last week I replaced all the skirting and architraves in the utility room that his dog had chewed for the third time, which then meant the whole room needed painting. I replaced an outside floodlight, changed a timer and photocell on others, got the ice maker working in the freezer, replaced a tap in the utility, repaired another tap, changed all the blown downlighter bulbs, adjusted the front door, repaired the child stairgate and the last thing on the list were these pendants! On second thoughts Steve, you are probably right!

Seriously, some wealthy folk don't like photos of their houses [inside or out] being taken, especially if they're going to end up being posted on the interweb. Remember how Google Earth and maps became the burglars' friend? Well...............

I would never take general pictures. Just the pendant and chandelier.
