As per thread title. As some may recall, I was to head West to get a pal to cut a thread in the 2 x 'billets' so that I can mount the ram in my embryo bench press.
Well, yesterday was the day. When I arrived, he said he had the first one mounted in the 4-jaw, cutter in the tool-holder, so after coffee all should be good to go. Not so.
It's going to sound as I'm being disloyal to a VERY good friend , but it became apparent that he is getting things wrong, and when that happens he loses the ability to think rationally. We spent ages [remember, I know less than the square root of nothing about the practicalities of screw cutting - something I must address before I'm much older ] before he realised he had the wrong cutter in place. Then he decided that the thread pitch was wrong, etc, etc. His Colchester has levers etc which are alien to me, so I had to accept what he was saying. Long story short, neither 'billet' ended up with the correct thread in it, so I'm effectively back at square one. I think I'm going to search to see if there's anywhere/anyone local(ish) who can cut the threads for me.

It was great to catch up with him and his wife again, and we had a good visit but I worry about him and the risks he takes and 'silly' things he's been doing of late - by his own admission many of them are quite unnecessary if he thought things through before embarking on some of the jobs he takes on - up ladders etc.. Also, he's been falling a few times recently too, again by not taking care.
I worry about him.......
