But keep in mind it is DC not AC.
You do get one hell of a belt off a modern ignition coil.

I'd do the above but id buy a electric fence driver. Not worth the fallout if it hurts someone.Connect it to the battery. Trickle charge battery.
I am aprecuating your guidence.Whatever source of 12-ish volts DC you use, it will not make an ignition coil produce high voltage without something that is going to periodically interrupt the current flow in the primary - i.e. a contact breaker thingy.
EDIT
Yes, adding a capacitor across the contact breaker will increase the output voltage, just like it does on a car engine.
I can recall the kick from one of the HT leads on my car late 70s early 80s. Just the hand. Points in them days were common, as opposed to electronic ignitions. That doesn't stop those with pacemakers being advised not to work on car HT Lead Ignitions in case of shock.

See also post #19 for an electronic "contact breaker simulator".This thread describes how to rig up an ignition coil when you don't have an actual distributor & contact breaker:

for the radial, i need a booster boil as the on starting the impulse mags dont generate a strong enough spark to start the engine. you can get dedicated booster coil set ups for around 100 quid, but you can also use an ignition coil off a car. now im no electrical genius, all i know is i need...www.mig-welding.co.uk
I use an old school charger but it only draws about 1/2 amp. What does your psu manage to draw. I use the rusty water to kill the moss on my drive and my neighbour’s flat roofs instead of pouring it away. It usually kills it for a couple of years.A old school one will, a tickle charger will not have the amps you need for that project.
Many of us use chargers to power our rust removal tanks.
I have a few old school battey chargers here actually, I now use a PC PSU to power my rust removal tank
The draw for me depends on how strong I make the solution. I have had it up to 6 amps before with a strongish solution and bake calipers in the tank.I use an old school charger but it only draws about 1/2 amp. What does your psu manage to draw. 6 amp! I’ve got an old PSU so I’ll be trying that. I’ll post a picture up of how it kills the moss, before and after. The draw for me depends on how strong I make the solution. I have had it up to 6 amps before with a strongish solution and bake calipers in the tank.
Great idea about using the rusty water as a moss killer, I would not have thought of that now I know what I will be doing next time.
My tank is a old CWST with 6 brake discs init as the sacrifical anode or wait is it cathode I forget! I take it the moss turns black and dies like with the lawn teatment stuff that contains some kind of iron.6 amp! I’ve got an old PSU so I’ll be trying that. deter squirrels from eating the food in the bird feeder.
That would be very entertaining to watch from the house. I cannot tell if it was real
Same as that but northernly cheaper lad. A lot of them are.Good job you were there, to save your mate. Farmer sounds like lunatic.
If it was connected to an 11kV line (How did he connect it there in the first place?) then its verrrrry unlikely you would be here typing this now....and I'd also be surprised there was any fence wire left if it was down to earth anywhereI had a very nasty kick off an electric fence many years ago. In the Brecon Beacons. No signs up. Not a normal looking electric fence either. My mate grabbed it and couldn't let go. I had to kick him off it. Reported it and the farmer was prosecuted. Turns out he had taken a feed straight off a 10,000v transmission lineOnly reason we weren't killed is that the fence was miles and miles long and had so many leaks to Earth. I think he actually went to jail as we weren't the only people who had been zapped.
