I have done 39yrs in the motortrade - I cannot imagine doing the full 50.

Hence why people wonder why I keep vcds.

A new sensor (probably ngk or similar make it)
Then Ross tech will have a walk through or coding help on vcds.

Take it to a decent vag specialist.

Where abouts are you based? There's an online database of people with Vcds that may be able to help. Few other places around that should be able to help with the component protection problem. I won't post any business names on here but happy to reply to a PM

I have been through the component protection on vws before.
If nothing has been changed on the truck then about the only option is Check all the plugs/cables are secure around the drivers footwell, make sure nothing has been disturbed if a dash cam or something like that has been fitted and cables pulled through.
Disconnect the battery for an hour and hope it works when you reconnect it.

Other than that it's a vist to the main dealer. Or, at least when I looked, 6mths ago maybe, none of the aftermarket tools would do it. Or not without allowing some bloke in russia to take control of your laptop...

Get a price in writing from the dealer to fix it first though. I have seen them replace headunits etc without fixing the problem.
Although the issue in that case is because it turned out that the vw technician working on it was using a snap-on style scanner to do the coding and not plugging it into the proper dealer computer and allowing it to connect to the vw server.. the owner basically had to print instructions from the Internet and give to the tech to sort it out.

I've been in the motortrade since I was 15, 35 years now, ten years ago I moved from mechanic to auto upholstery and it was the best move I've done. Only another 15 years to go.

Is this why I spend most days dropping NOX sensor faultcodes off the "P code fault tables" - for other garages (and the big trade!).

So found a local VAG specialist indie who was able to look at it today. NOx sensor fault, but unable to source part this side of Easter weekend, so has suggested simply disabling the Adblue system, assuring me that many customers just leave it like this, and assured me it would still pass emissions tests.

I’m sceptical, but have asked them to do that tomorrow anyway so I can get the vehicle back on the road, then will take it back hopefully next week to get the actual sensor replaced when one is available and re-enable the AdBlue system.

Feels a bit like a bodge to me, but still better than being a key vehicle down for a month whilst awaiting a main dealer.

Based in Ayrshire, would definitely be interested in any options to help with the Component Protection issue. VAG indie I found for the NOx sensor fault said they don’t touch Component Protection faults, always send them back to the main dealer. Will PM.
