magnets effecting arc

well I didnt realise how magnets mess up the arc,

The lidl magnets seem to pull the arc off of the work 90 deg to the magnet

Yep it's a similar principle on the old crt tv's.
2 electro magnets ( scan coils) deflect the electron beam to create the picture.

Those magnets could pull your fillings out, Never mind your arc, I found out years ago when my mig went crazy when getting too close to a magnet nowhere near as strong as the Lidl items.
Magnets can be very handy, As long as you don't get too close,

We have a couple of 3.5T lifting magnets that are proof tested to 7T. If you forget and try to tack near them when they are on the arc goes absolutely crazy.
Funny seeing someone try to hammer near them, hammer comes down and disappears off sideways

Back in the day when I moved into my first house (council) gas meter workings were all metallic, during cold winter spells, gas up full, magnet attached to top of meter, sure did make the counter thingy slow down!!

Plastic and alloy took over, things were never the same.

unless u turned the gas meter round the more u use the faster the readings went backwards

Magnet was easier to remove if an unexpected meter man knocked on door to take a reading. I now have a smart meter, goodbye monthly readings and trying to screw the corporations.....lol.

Folks used to use the magnet trick on electric metres too. Electricity board could test them if they suspected Miss use.
For "free" gas, either meter turned round, Or removed altogether and replaced with a U bend copper pipe with suitable fittings.

I was doing a tad of touch up painting today and had similar with the brush every time I got near the magnetic door stops/blocks.

It's not only magnets that haf an effect it is also the level of magnetism held in the steel, a lot of R & D going on at our place at the moment on the topic but it is showing significant issues/results on root runs with differing processes.

A garage I knew had gas heating. The meter had a bypass valve which was wired closed, so if the meter failed the gas board could break the seal, open the valve and take the meter away for repairs. (Un)fortunately the gas board fitted the wire the wrong way round so it just sagged if the valve was opened, which it did at about 17:00 hrs every night.
