Someone else on here puts his magnet inside a poly bag, then holds the bag over the bin and remove the magnet.......et voila, the swarf drops off the plastic bag.
That's a good idea as well. The magnet I have been using is a great big cube-shaped rare-earth magnet I got very cheap direct from China, but it's an absolute beast of a thing and will nip your fingers off given half a chance. If it gets stuck to steel it's near impossible to get off. I normally leave it attached to the back of the Rage saw to catch a lot of the chippings flying off it. When I use it to clean the lathe, any tools etc which are too near inevitably fly towards my fingers at high speed, with a lot of yelping and blood blisters involved.
