Someone else on here puts his magnet inside a poly bag, then holds the bag over the bin and remove the magnet.......et voila, the swarf drops off the plastic bag.

That's a good idea as well. The magnet I have been using is a great big cube-shaped rare-earth magnet I got very cheap direct from China, but it's an absolute beast of a thing and will nip your fingers off given half a chance. If it gets stuck to steel it's near impossible to get off. I normally leave it attached to the back of the Rage saw to catch a lot of the chippings flying off it. When I use it to clean the lathe, any tools etc which are too near inevitably fly towards my fingers at high speed, with a lot of yelping and blood blisters involved.

We use the wheeled types, idiots always cut metal cladding and flashing on membrane roofing systems, walk on them and puncture the membrane and try to blame us, or walk through metal swarf then walk on the roofs.

Yep. I know that bloke. He also cuts galv handrail using a 9 inch grinder, and lets the sparks spray all over the customers £30k stainless steel plant, and doesn't clean it up. Then wonders why we get a £5k cleanup bill . Not to mention leaves a mag drill on a column without a chain to have a conversation with someone on the floor. Then turns the bloody genset off because he can't hear what the guy is saying.... I could right a book about him

I've a lidl ash can vac. (£29) it's OK but like all of them, they soon get clogged if you feed it to quickly. None of them like stringy swarf.

Currenly waiting on the one @awemawson uses.

i nearly bought a new karcher vac a few weeks ago but in the end i didnt make a deal, but after i wondered how much of the 7-900 was actually for the brand name and how much was for the vacuum itself.
upon a google search there is cheaper to be found with prety much the same sucking power.

i have a big vacuum unit here, it can hold 200ltrs and has the proper swarf bucket on it too, which is something that unless you want to remortgage the house cant be got for civil money.
the thought crossed my mind to use some of the beam vacuum tubing and when im doing my tool room just pipe it round the walls and have the main unit in another shed so as to keep the noise down.
could work better than a bought in one in the end.

I use my Lidl wet 'n dry vac in the shed - takes up turnings, sawdust, grinding dust et al - I just emptied it and cleaned the filter today, for want of anything else to do [it was raining, so no outside welding.....].

i think ill pipe in what i have and it ill do rightly, if you wanted something similar it id cost 2-3k new id say.
the one id be after was a wet n dry one, i wouldnt of thought any standard vac would be happy about sucking up coolant.
