We use the wheeled types, idiots always cut metal cladding and flashing on membrane roofing systems, walk on them and puncture the membrane and try to blame us, or walk through metal swarf then walk on the roofs.

you mean stuff like Sarnafil ect...EPDM is a lot more forgiving to idiots

We do use Sarna, depends on the clients spec, also EDPM and self healing modified bitumens.

We use the broom type ones at work and we get a towable type round once a week pulled by one of the 3 wheel electric tugs.

wish my local roofing merchants would do the same..i must have a punture every month from nails falling out of customers vans

We got lots of punctures from our own vans from the roofing division, the amount of different fixings they carry is unreal and when they cleaned their vans out they would unload them and sweep them out and leave most of the rubbish on the floor, when I went there I made them all clean their vans regularly as some where mobile swamps, and to prevent all the punctures I allocated a space and built a small set of ramps they reverse onto and get their wheels up to the stops, a shallow tray which slides was built and they sweep straight out into that now and never a problem as they slide the tray out, lift up, and empty straight into the skips.

well the evo mag tool arrived today and it works very well indeed I even cleanned up my welding magnets with it. makes things easier I must admit

I made one from one of them using a cylindrical neodymium magnet with a hole through it. I found one on ebay the right size to fit in pvc conduit. It's just like a syringe with the top bit of a pop bottle as a funnel half way up the conduit. To use I just push the magnet all the way to the end pickup the swarf then pull the magnet up past the funnel when it's over the bin and it falls away, cost me a fiver if that.

is the on/off action smooth on that, it looks ok and is wide enough id say, its not dear.
altho after having the wand since they came out i use it with the mag, i keep it away from the mill.
its grand for what it dose, the rod on mine wasnt too well fastened to the magnet so its been operated on a few times but still works.
altho soon i plan to buy a hoover, its a kind of natural progression.

I've a lidl ash can vac. (£29) it's OK but like all of them, they soon get clogged if you feed it to quickly. None of them like stringy swarf.

Currenly waiting on the one @awemawson uses.

I have a cheapie wheeled one for the floor which is ok, and now after reading this thread ive gone and ordered a wand type one for the lathe. Otherwise its only a matter of time before I get some swarf properly under my skin when picking it off the big magnet I have been using. Wish I had seen the conduit idea before I ordered though. Ill take a pic of it in action when I use it.

Someone else on here puts his magnet inside a poly bag, then holds the bag over the bin and remove the magnet.......et voila, the swarf drops off the plastic bag.
