I can't help thinking it could play havoc with Wi-Fi like tin foil lined plaster board can.

No. Maybe nickel but not iron. Pollyfiller is too porous and the iron would rust up.

Not sure if it was a serious question though.

no just messing ,,, but the mesh idea was serious , coat of pva or waterproof paint over the top , use galv sheet if you were getting iffy about the moisture or coated perf , like speaker grill...

I skimmed a local nursery with magnetic for my sister. The toddler's loved sticking stuff to the walls.
It's not bad to use, just a bit pricey and I had to order it in.

I actually had to explain to them that the plaster isn't really magnetic, just that magnets will stick to it.

One possible concern -

Old gypsum is no good to work with. Shop turn over of a specialist product like this may be low. Id be concerned that the bag may have been hanging about for a while.

We are doing the spare room / office at the moment. It’s 95% office then guest room as and when. This may well be just the job so it doesn’t look so “industrial” when we have folk stay
