That's a good point.
And I do know that yet still I call them fire bricks.
Infact, I only have 4 categories, building bricks, fire bricks, kerbstones and lego.
Everything I see has to go into one of those.

Well in the sense that they are bricks FROM a fire (or at least a heater) they are ex-fire bricks

Almost a year later, I grabbed a storage heater brick earlier to check. Talk about delayed curiosity. Magnet's stuck to it.

Quick look online says it's magnetite used in their manufacture.

Any other heat related uses for these things other than just heat storage?

They arent refractory materiel like wood stove bricks.

Put one on top at night and it'll act like a storage heater and keep kicking out heat for ages after the fire goes out.

For the best part of thirty years my forge was lined with bricks from a night storage heater, never needed to change one, whereas the previous 'fire bricks' would both melt and crack. They were easy to cut to size with an angle grinder too. Still got quite a few in the garden but can't see me firing up the forge again.
