Magnetic boiler filters

My boilers goosed again. Baxi 105e. I know it's old, but I know my way around it and I can usually fix it. Diverter valve again. They seem to last 3-4yrs... I don't want to rebuild it as I can get a guaranteed recon one for £70ish...
If I fitted a magnetic filter to the system is it likely these diverter valves would last longer? I mean, not crud up as quick!

even if it makes no odds clean the system out and fit one. the amount of iron i get of mine every year is a fair amount then add rust inhibitor

just changed a couple of valves on my heating cleaned the filter out and filled with inhibitor .buying a branded name costs 19 quid when you can get unbranded for 9 quid from plumbase on norton road. the same stuff realy

I don't want to go to the expense or hassle of a power flush. So would I be ok just fitting the filter when I drain the boiler to fit the diverter valve?

yep drain it off and see what comes out .or you could put some sentinel heating cleaner in and run it for a few hours and drain it

Yeah, cleaner in first, then drain, then fill up and add inhibitor. Sounds like a plan. I fitted my boiler about 16yrs ago, I was a lot more agile. It's in a low position upstairs in the eaves. I don't recall struggling at all fitting it, but now I dread working on it as it hurts my knees and back! If and when it gets replaced I may consider relocating it!
