What I've read on X400 is that it can be left circulating for up to 4 weeks in heavily soiled systems. I've drained my system before but after running the X400 around the crud that came out was unreal. Big old traditional Warmflow Bluebird oil boiler here btw. Downstairs 3/4" nominal bore, single pipe system where I believe rads tend to block in the corners. I know for a fact my system had never had an actual cleaner run through it since it was installed in the 50s.
I was involved in building a test rig, we used clear plastic pipe to show sludge build up
X400 foamed badly and was difficult to remove, F3 didn't and was easier to remove. The cheaper cleaners were either rubbish, foamed or both
The water was lab tested at various points, X400 remained active for a long time and also facilitated galvanic corrosion, causing pinholes in the copper pipes and aluminium heat exchangers
But your right, a quick Google search knows better than proper, regulated testing, some of which was actually validated by BSI and forms part of the current BS on central heating commissioning
I should stick to my own rule and not reply to posts on central heating and gas, whats 20 years in the trade worth now everybody has Google in their pocket?
