Maglite warranty

Went to use one of my maglites earlier, but it seems the batteries have leaked

Reading on the instruction book, it suggests its not covered- contact the battery manufacturer.
Reading on the website, it says it will replace if duracell batteries have been used.

Anyone managed to get one replaced through maglite?

That's interesting. Mine leaked too. Three D cell Maglite and one of the Duracells leaked. Managed to get the leaked one out by beating it on a piece of wood but the remaining corrosion on the inside of the aluminium body is stopping a new battery going all the way in.
I did think about wrapping some emery cloth around a wooden stick an lapping the inside of the tube clean but not got round to it yet. Eveything else seems to be intact.
If I could just get a new body tube that'd save me a job.

Re the Duracell: Mate mentioned a few weeks back he had something destroyed (can't remember what) and he contacted Duracell complaining about the battery leaking, he was compensated fully, it came up in conversation because he was amazed at the no hassle handling of his complaint.

I think it was a fairly expensive torch of somekind but not 100% sure.

Like most other things there are fake Duracell batteries on the market. I have seen a sign in Warrington saying "We only sell genuine Duracell Batteries". When asked the stallholder told me he had been offered "Dodgy Duracell" but refused to sell them.

Well, no joy from Maglite, they told me to contact Duracell, which is fair enough i guess.

2 emails, and a brief phonecall, and i have been reimbursed the cost of the torch.

Cant say I have ever considered it tbh.
Very few places that I buy batteries, normally buy a load when they are on offer, at reputable places.
Get through a few with 2 young kids
I tend to buy duracells for higher drain things, and cheaper ones for things like remotes and clocks.

Heard that the maglite warranty is similar to the Leatherman tool one,
sent my broken 8 year old Leatherman back to the UK dealer, no receipt reqd,

got a new £80+ tool back in the post 3 days later

Good to hear i'll find my 6 D cell out with two batteries still wedged in and leaked.
Wouldnt use it even if replaced far better light out my Fenix TK40 on 2nd lowest setting. Theyve had their day 5 years or more ago.

ive been thinking of getting an led bulb for my maglite as it has become somewhat redundant. Back in Scouts there wasnt a better torch and now it gets beaten by a double aa battery powered led torch from the pound shop.

They are pretty poor C4tini if you can find some beam shots before and after.

Some producers are renown for over inflating the lumens then theres how they use available output.

I have a few 2D LED (not led replacement bulb but the proper unit) and I'm very happy with them. Have yet to find a torch as tougth and usefull as a mag light

One way to spot fakes is the packaging. Real duracells always use recycled card so on the unpinned side the card is brown like a toilet roll tube. The fakes use fresh white card.

You can tell fake Smirnoff from the label. Real ones use as little glue as possible on the back of the bottle label. Fakes use fully gummed labels.

I contacted Maglight about a duff switch on a torch and they said there were two different switch modules - so they sent me both FOC :-)
