Review Maglite ML 50L Torch

Ordered one of these baby’s last week

its a 2 C cell led torch

Classic Maglite engineering and quality, nice feel in the hand and easy to use and carry.

It’s the first torch where I’ve had to read the instructions to make it work. There are four modes, normal, outdoors, law enforcement and tactical. Between 1 to 3 clicks of the button selects high power, low power and strobe. The modes determine what sequence of button pressing does what to the light out put.

It’s all set and controlled by the single on off button and unscrewing the battery cap. Clever stuff

I’ve got it set to outdoors mode
1 click = full power
2 clicks = low power
3 clicks = strobe

Other settings include momentary latching and eco power mode

Now for the test. The focus selection is very limited. Focus is from a wide spread to not so wide spread, nothing like the old Maglite that gave a nice tight spot beam. This is really disappointing

Light output is good and provides nice illumination of my reference tree in the garden

Cost, £36 quid delivered

Would I buy another one?

No, I think there are probably better alternatives that give the same performance for less money.

Plus I’ve been spoilt by the LED Lenser, it cost twice as much but is four times the torch

I have a Coast, and it’s awesome I also have a smaller LED Lenser, I’d not go back to a Maglite product now either.

I have the small led lenzer head torch and the larger one there brill . only downside the feed cables from battery pack to head torch are thin and both snapped after a years use . I renewed them but it was difficult to solder the small connections

I have a Coast, and it’s awesome I also have a smaller LED Lenser, I’d not go back to a Maglite product now either.

I’d not even heard of Coast until now. They look good

Yep, bad mistake. My old D Cell mags with standard bulbs are much better. Even the ones with the LED bulb conversion are much better

So have I.....Its more of a deterrent than a torch.......its an LED one so its very bright..I got it cheap off ebay 20 quid I think......maybe equivalent to the £5 chinese cree thing.....

Chances are they are fake if from ebay to be honest BS!

I've got a fake one, seller insisted it was genuine, absolutely identical to my genuine one, only way to tell was to send the serial number to lenser. After that they were still claiming it was genuine but gave me a refund anyway.

I have a cheapo 4d from toolstation for £6! Is great in the car

I will look at a lenser as I’d like a decent torch to last for a year or two

The females in my family carry small Surefires with a castellated bezel and a push switch on the back. The idea is to disorientate a would-be attacker with the 800 lumen beam then give them a smart smack in the forehead with the bezel, leaving a pronounced identifying mark.
