Finally made the two seat bases with live bait tanks built in out of fibreglass for the front of the boat. Repaired an old base mould which I made for a previous Scarab 23ft I had owned and for the last 13 odd years it had been sitting in the open weather, used it for washing my dog in and also for mixing up orchid potting mix in my nursery, so it was in pretty poor shape with osmosis in the gelcoat, scratches etc. But I managed to make two more bases out of it, they didn't turn out too bad.
Unfortunately I had thrown out the mould for the live bait tank that go inside it, so used a 60lt wheelie bin base to make the 2 tanks I needed, took the wheels off, put a top on it and also a flange around it to the correct depth, then gelcoated it and glassed it over, it's not really flash or well polished but it will do the job, I don't think that the bait fish will care. The only thing I still have to do is to get some small hinges for the live bait tank lid and also some toggles to keep the lid rubber seal flat against the base which keeps the water from splashing around when under way. The hatch allows me to store things directly under the seat base, you can never have enough storage space on a boat. I am also toying with the idea of using some pourab;le foam just around the live bait tank to use it as a cooler box if I am not using it to fish, but will worry about it at a later stage.
Another job done, now starting on the wiring and fixing up the boat insides.
