I am considering making up some solid aluminium subframe bushes for my car, the aftermarket ones like below are around £250 in UK.

I believe they use 7075 aluminium, how is this to turn on a lathe?
Also, I have heard people say " I turned (whatever) on the lathe", but I have also seen people say " I lathed (whatever) on the lathe", are they both correct or is it more accepted to use the word turned?
Thanks.
