i live 5 mins from there, i saw the top of the boom poking through the crystal clear waters of Weston beach, thought about going back when the tide had receded, then decided it was a bit too cold and stayed home , i assume this isnt the first time it,s happened, they pull cars out every week in the summer.

We went to Weston one year when the sand racing was on. Someone left a brand new Range Rover on the sand with the tide coming in, some of the marshals hitched Land Rovers & tried to drag it up the beach, in the end they had about 3 tied on & tried to move it, but the more they tried, it just dug itself further into the sand. In the end they just had to leave it, it was quite funny when the owner came back, just the roof was showing. I don’t know why they didn’t break the window & take the handbrake off, or take it out of gear, I’m sure it would have moved then, I would think the owner would have rather had to replace a window than the whole vehicle.

I read a very good book once about ballasted tractor units and heavy haulage back in the 60's.
I know, I need to get out more.

I’m the same, read an interesting book about the memoirs of an ordinance officer in WW2 whos job was inspecting and recovering damaged tanks rolling through europe. I find that sort of stuff just as interesting as the front line action!

I’ve been looking for pictures of another digger that was bogged. All that was visible was the top of the boom. When it went down it wasn’t to bad, the cab and boom were above the surface. An in experienced machine operator was brought in to debog the other machine. He dug the top side where the water was running from. The bogged machine went down when he did this. More diggers were brought in to aid with the recovery. They got it out eventually, wet peat is very grippy stuff.

Not heavy recovery, but funny all the same- mate just reminded me of going up to Dumfries to ride an enduro track on a farm that had newly been set up, we were the test monkeys. 2 mile track and one section was a big that was getting steadily harder to cross with every bike that went through, so by dinner we had a chat about changes and decided to cut the bog out. Started riding again and after about 20 minutes realised that one of the group was no longer behind us, so we back tracked thinking he’d come off. Got to the bog area to see him sat on a rock smoking a fag and looking miserable, but no bike. On asking he said nothing and pointed dead centre of the bog where there was just a pair of handle bars sticking out. He must have found the wettest part and ploughed straight in

I did a stint driving a big Volvo dumper at Gasogine woods -Nth Shelby Mine complex drift mine- when it rained you couldn’t see the sides of the road for the coal slurry, everything looked the same - black as coal and flat. One of the dumpers didn’t make it around one corner, sliding off the road. I was following. All you could see was the top of the cab. With the driver crawling out looking like he’d been tarred waiting for the feathers

had that a few times with the bikes but iv been out with the Land Rover boys and my god did some of them get stuck

watched a bunch of idiots rip an axle off a defender when they tied a strop around it

It might have been out in 10 minutes, how ever it would be gas axed into smaller pieces within 5 minutes.
