Mac tools ET97

Hello all, Anyone ever used the above diagnostic tool? I bought one about 6 months ago and its only ever worked on 1 car .
Any other cars it just shows up as a communication error.

Not happy with it at all and just wondered had anyone else got one

What car did it work on?

I'd guess that the lead is faulty

the mac tools code readers and made by a company called launch which normally make good gear.

what cars are u trying it on.

if your not happy with it give it back to the mac man.

Its only ever worked on a suzuki swift, tried it on a 206 pug, 2002 and a 1999 fiesta. its brand new and has had no use.

even upgraded it online and still made no difference

If the cars are diesel then at 2002 they are just a bit too old for OBD 2 or EOBD. Most petrols of that age were compliant but for diesel it was about 2004 - 2006 (I think) before it became a mandatory standard. Try the machine on other petrol cars of the right age to prove the machine and leads.

There are also about four differing protocols used and you may need to set up the machine to read the correct protocol or you will get a communication error. Not sure of what cars use what protocol.

They were all petrol cars chris. I;ll take a look at the set up again

that code reader will be petrol 2001 onwards and diesel 2004 onwards compliant.

the fiesta was too old. but i am surprised by the peugeot, even the crappiest readers will talk to pugs. they are normally good.

Neill chris mentions about the correct protocol or tool set up, have you any ideas??
