Mac mail problem

Fingers crossed for some help here guys, MacBook has suddenly refused to send emails,It will receive them ok, But notice pops up saying virgin media does not recognise the SMTP, Even took it to a local computer repair shop thinking it might be a quick fix, He tried configuring a few things but no joy, Recons he will need to do a better investigation.Not knowing any better i thought maybe mail could be removed and then reinstalled, but a google search says no, Any idea's? (keep in mind that I am a computer simpleton )

I think I've had this before - but I'm not with Virgin Media.

Albeit on a apple phone I had the same problem. For some reason the incoming mail password had a problem but the outgoing password didn’t ?

I kind of got use to deleting the mail account and then reinstalling the account which worked.

About a year ago I bought a 27” iMac and the mail problems started happening again, this was with sky. The apple phone didn’t have a problem tho ?

I deleted the mail account and reinstalled it on the iMac and it worked ?

Is your mac up to date with all of the software updates ?

Hi, Yes software up to date, It seemed to be the out-going mail user and password, Strangely filling the name and password did fix it once. but next time I looked it had not remembered these, tried it again and didn't work, When you deleted your account and reinstalled it, did it still remember all your old mails?

in Crete right now and just the same thing happened to me.....

to get u going..........

right, go to safari, then in the top bar write icloud mail..... click on it and it will ask for your pass word, then ur in...this page is self explanatory ....u'll get the normal writing page with the SEND button in the top right hand corner.....write the email and press send.........
NOW on my Mac Book air (which is almost up to date) u press the send button and sometimes it goes woosh, like it used too but also sometimes after pressing send button there's a little round-all thingy that just goes round and round seemingly for ever BUT check the sent box and it will have gone.....
Not an expert at all but word is the last upgrade was rubbish....
they'll sort it in a little while....and an upgrade will eventually get the job done.....
I now never upgrade until a month or so after they come out......cos it gives apple time to sort out the nigly probs.....it shouldn't happen but it's a whole lot better than the WINDOWS rubbish..spelt cxxp..
my laptop is still not working how it should/did in email but at least this way got me going again......

also as I said I'm not good with this electronic stuff....
asked all kinds'a questions via google.......most say go here, go there and press this n that.....
well I don't know what the hell they are talking about
SO, I just ask the same question but for DUMMIES.....
that helps me a lot........just sayin.......

Eureka, Well guys after your advise and trial and tribulation, I think that i have cracked it, Server settings. the auto manage connections was ticked, altered to password required.and low and behold worked straight away. So even though I was entering my email address and password it must have not set to require a password. Anyway I'm still baffled but its working. Thank goodness, And that you all too.

Sorry guys, Spoke too soon, After altering setting it allowed me to send 3 emails without any problem, But now returned to not sending again, Saying authorisation required.

forgot to say, read emails on 1 tab and write on another....bit inconvenient but !!!!!!!...
going home today, lets see what the big mac is doing....hahaha...
where we live a comp is a nec. tool.......
had 2x27" mac's.......just lost 1 in a thunderstorm, managed to disconnect 1, the other is trashed....
a nice going away prezzy, dropped it off with apple, so who knows.......
did hear they do an exchange service BUT not for desk tops......grrrrr.....

I seem to have got it sorted, I was inserting my user name and password, but the system appeared to be not set to ask for a password so didn't recognise my attempts to send mail, If that makes sense!!
