Mac laptop problem

Hoping some of our members can help me please, I have tried for about a week now,and trawled the internet but still baffled, Just updated my mac gear to the latest operating system (Yosemite) The problem is I cant get my emails on the laptop. Emails come ok to the desk top computer and to my iPhone. when using the laptop notification of new mail flash briefly in the top left of the screen as they should but then they vanish, can't find them anywhere, Double checked all the mail settings and they are identical to the desk top computer, Very strange thing is junk mail is arriving normaly. Im tearing out what little hair i have left, Fingers crossed someone has the solution.

if you are getting junk mail check any spam type filters you have make sure nothing is blocking them

What app are you using for mail on the mac? What connection type (assumed IMAP)?

I believe its mac mail, Yes imap.ntlworld.com But since downloading Yosemite the imap.ntlworld.com is greyed out

have you tried apple forum or an apple store nearby

Still running OS X 10.4 on a 12 year old laptop! The Apple support are good for sorting problems

I have tried the apple forum,Next move will have to be to Middlesbrough, They do a fixed price 12 months tuition deal I believe, Get one to one lessons etc on any of your Mac stuff.
P.S. everything worked great prior to downloading Yosemite including the emails.
I rang Apple support today, they wanted me to pay £25-00 for a one off telephone session.

you may need to download a new app, like the iphone some apps don't work on newer ios

mac mail is upgraded as part of the os upgrade. I'll be on my work laptop over the weekend, I'll spin up the OS x instance and have a dig around.

Are you on an NTL service or BoltBlue? Bolt Blue bought up 300,000 odd NTL subscribers that NTL couldn't service.

I'm on NTL had the same email address for quite a long time now, I wouldn't have a clue about downloading another app. i think my mails are stored on the server. Does that mean i can delete my present mail account and all my mails would still be on the server?

You could delete that account off the laptop. If your phone and desktop is still receiving e mails it would not be a problem. Have you more than one e mail account? Try setting another one up such as google and see if that works. It might just be the fact that it does not like NTLs account or go over carefully the settings again, wrong password, or maybe NTL settings are wrong. A dot but should be a slash or maybe lower case when it should be upper case. I have had this problem before it's easy done!

Thanks for the replies, I will wait until my daughter can do the delete and set back up for me. Things with computers seam to go horribly wrong when I mess with thing I don't understand, Still baffles me why the junk is getting through and not ordinary mails.
