Does anyone know the drill size and tap needed to insert a finished thread of m6. Last time I bought a helicoil kit it was complete with drill and tap,but I’ve since found boxes of commonly used insert sizes at a fraction of the cost of a single size. Thanks.

Helicoils use a special size tap (STI) which will be marked M6 to suit an M6 helicoil.
Keenserts use standard size taps if you have enough material for one.

If you dont already have the taps your best of getting a kit. I use a kit similar to this, good value and not had any problems with them.
