The Matilda II matched the firepower of contemporary Panzer III and Panzer IV marks and had far better armour; if we had built a few more of them we might have had an easier time in north africa and northern France. It took until mid 1941 for the Germans to produce significant numbers of Panzer IIIs and IVs with heavier armour and a long barrel 50mm.Yes, I've always found that strange. All the allied tanks were inferior to German armour in all except numbers. The Germans always outgunned and out armoured usbut made drastic strategic and logistic errors which is the only thing that prevented our defeat.
