I was able to make one because a kind member who helped out when I was between lathes.

Good news is Milwaukee have now decided to launch it next year….

That’s what I did but someone machined it for me. When I bought mine you couldn’t get metric sized bores in the kit

I made my own version and it might be a little bit on the fast side but a single speed is OK for everything apart from the scotchbrite belts really

Mine attaches to the M12 Cut-Off tool which has variable speed trigger.

Presumably the Milwaulkee file will be the same.

What I found the biggest problem with is the nose roller getting hot then melting the tape that hold the belt together

Ok melt is a bit strong but it weakens it.

I tried a Black and Decker Powerfile on Sunday, ran for a couple of minutes then destroyed a belt.

Tried 3 times (been gentle with it) then gave up.

I was using the M12 for cutting at this point so didn't want to convert it over.

It was doing belts in under the 10 seconds at one point. I was using it hard mine!! I convinced the sait rep it was his belts and got a few free but once he found out what it was on then no more.

He reckons the air ones have a jet forward to cool that nose roller. Be interesting to see how Milwaukee deal with that.

He is right. If I fire an airline at the roller or the work it lasts ages. Kind of defeats the point though!

I’ve been frantically looking for and ELECTRIC power file that’s 520x20. Over the years I’ve found that size belt doesn’t bust on the seam like the 330x10s do. I’ve two air belt sanders on 520 but as I work freelance not all places have decent compressed air systems and my sanders are extremely air hungry. The only electric stuff out there run on 457x13 and it’s not that belt size I want to live with.

I’ve seen angle grinder attachments from China for around £20 +/- on eBay but every seller is avoiding answering my questions about belt sizes and thats not just one seller but all of them. The only thing I can see by attaching the set up to an angle grinder is that it’ll run at ballistic speed which is too ‘friction hot’ and dangerously fast for my work.

Shame the grinder is not variable speed.
Uses a ball bearing race for the front roller and blue belts.

You can make the arms and roller width what you like to suite belt sizes/
It would have been a lot easier if they had used a standard guard mount .

Looks like a 520-20 belt? Does it run as fast as a rapist in a brothell?

That belt is cut from a 3 or 42 wide belt so probable about 20mm. Can't recall length.
I made one up in the past for a mains (but external speed controlled) grinder.
would take most sizes of belt and even for a crack the multi ridged roller would allow a full width belt (4" maybe)

I was going to grab one of the lidi vari-speed grinders and make up a battery adapter to take the Ferrex batteries but they were out of stock.
The speed seams ok to me. It would be possible to run belt slower by reducing the drive pulley diameter.

Wonder if it worth buying a ****ty cheap electric power file instead of and angle grinder and go ‘big belt’ modification instead? The speed would be correct and also the balance of the machine

Aren't the "proper" power files variable speed ? (don't know, never had one).
Issue might be the arms for the proper power file are not straight forward from what I recall of images I have seen.
Also I did not like the look of the bulk of the motor sticking out from the side. Thought it might get in way when under a car, hence slim body grinder used.

There’s two types, one as you mentioned and the other type has an inline motor and it’s also got some central movement so it can fold back on itself
