M/Cycle for Commuting

I've had four Bandit 6's. Easy to service, cheap to repair, parts a-plenty. No comfortable mile-muncher though, the engine's too revvy and the seat whilst adequate isn't in Dullville/ST league.

Dullville's quicker off the mark too.

On that subject, the old ST11's seat was more comfy than the 13's for long distances. Honda made the 13's seat height-adjustable but managed to sack the comfort engineers at the same time...
I can manage a full tank in one sitting (about 320 miles) but the subsequent tankfuls are hard work on the old botty. That said, according to Nursy I do have the buttocks of a choirboy

next door has original blackbird tucked up in the shed wont part with it
very low miles not used for last 10 years it's just like it's out of the showroom get run up ever few months just a shame

I had a dullsville one winter and sold it in spring because it was so....well, dull. I've regretted selling it many times since. I used it to from Rugby to Coventry to pick up a pillion then on to Leicester every morning then the reverse every night in freezing weather overtaking the gritting lorry. It was light enough to manhandle around without being afraid of dropping it, had as much poke as was needed for staying with or getting past traffic and most importantly had excellent weather protection. The fairing and tall screen kept everything off and mine had heated grips, which i'd recommend to anyone.

What about burgmans. They go up to 750 too I think

Definitely look at the big scooters, I love 'Em!
I have owned 3 x Suzuki Burgman 650 's, 3 x Suzuki Burgman 400's & a Honda Silverwing 600
They are brilliant mile Munchers and you won't get any better weather protection than a big scoot.
Few years ago I travelled 100 miles in a downpour on a Suzuki Burgman 650, I was hardly wet when I arrived!
Early Honda Silverwings are a bit thirsty though.......

lots of chain drive bikes mentioned-I don't like chain drive on commuter bikes-even with scottoilers fitted-its a personal thing-I just hate constantly messing with chain maintenance-some just ignore it-but I'm one them what has to keep lubing em.
Like someone else who has posted I had two bikes when I commuted- a moto guzzi-shaft drive obviously-and an MZ TS250 -yes it was chain drive but it was an enclosed chain.I used the MZ when the weather was really bad, it was easy to paddle through snow or pick up if you lost your footing.
There used to be a bloke called Peter Furlong who made chain cases, with the skill base on here that could be a project for someone-might even be an earner in it.
There were no big scoots back then or I would have had one.
Best bit of kit I now have is heated jacket liner and gloves.

You and me both! Before I passed my test, I did courier work on a 250 Superdream. Once I passed, I bought a BMW R100RT and never looked back. BMW make superb tourers, but they do hold their value. My K1200LT is a 2000 and is still worth about £3K.

The battery electric gloves are epic! Bought a pair the first winter I had my 'bike' being a 50 cc then the charging coils didn't have the guts to run heated grips etc

Bought some Gerbing G3 Heated Gloves last week when at the NEC Bike show.
They are really good, they get seriously warm on the hottest setting
