Would you suggest they should run into a burning multi storey to save a few cars?Sadly our firebrigades are so risk adverse these days they try to fight fires from the outside. It doesn't work!
The corporate manslaughter laws introduced in 2007 are to blame. 3 fire chiefs were facing jail because of it. Now they refuse to send the firemen into dangerous situations
Obviously nobody wants to see firemen die but the figures speak for themselves. In the USA they lose around 100 a year. In the UK just 1 in the last 10 years.
Firefighting is a dangerous job - it is impossible to make it 100% safe without sacrificing something.
The Manchester bombing was a classic example.
They used to. There could be people or pets in some of those cars.Would you suggest they should run into a burning multi storey to save a few cars?
As we know they only go into a building to bring out possible victims.Would you suggest they should run into a burning multi storey to save a few cars?
They will not save pets if their life's are at more risk. They used to. There could be people or pets in some of those cars.
People have a habit of returning to save their pets - I certainly would. They will not save pets if their life's are at more risk.
The RNLI do more as dumb nuts get carried out on cheep inflatables.People have a habit of returning to save their pets - I certainly would.
That is why the RNLI etc get involved in so many animal rescues.
They are also volunteers of course. The RNLI do more as dumb nuts get carried out on cheep inflatables.
Hmm, yea makes sense. They should put themselves at risk for a dog or non existent people. They used to. There could be people or pets in some of those cars.
Alas Mr Tiff, many Strawberry have no real concept of fighting a big fire.Hmm, yea makes sense. They should put themselves at risk for a dog or non existent people.
Have you actually seen the video, or in fact been involved in firefighting in an enclosed space containing fuel? I have - and to suggest that they could somehow go in and start fighting this type of fire from within is nothing more than fantasy. The collapse of the building gives you some indication surely?

Obviously it depends on how far established the fire was. I suspect it was reported very promptly.Hmm, yea makes sense. They should put themselves at risk for a dog or non existent people.

And I suspect the people that live and work there. All done without consultation with either the fire brigade of ambulance service
Blimey. I dont often disagree with you, but do here, especially in the context of the Luton fire. As an airport car park theres unlikely to be any pets there. People should be able to exit easily so can see to themselves. Let the thing burn to the ground if you cant safely put it out from the outside. Why risk the fire brigade lives?Sadly our firebrigades are so risk adverse these days they try to fight fires from the outside. It doesn't work!

You are seriously arguing that sending more firefighters to die is a good thing? Have a word.Obviously it depends on how far established the fire was. I suspect it was reported very promptly.
My concern is not with the individual firemen - it's the fact that modern health and safety protocols/laws are endangering the public by stopping the firebrigades doing what they used to do. And yes we are also losing buildings due to this. It is easy to say buildings don't matter but they often do.
Why do they lose so many more fire fighters in the USA and other countries? Are they all rubbish or badly equipped? I think not.
There have been too many cases of the public dying because the fire brigade were afraid to respond.
No. Just wondering what is so different between the UK and USA brigades. You are seriously arguing that sending more firefighters to die is a good thing? Have a word.
