I need advice on a bit of chassis work on my Land Rover Defender - I hope this is the right part of the forum to ask.
I have a 93 Defender that has a few areas of attention, with the first ones to look at being the dumb irons and the front outriggers.
I am looking for hints and tips at how to do these including links to any threads on here and possibly any videos etc that you may know of. I have tried looking for threads on here but they seem to be part of bigger restorations and I only want to take bits off that I need to for these particular tasks.
I will make the dumb irons myself as I only want to replace the bits I need to and want to keep the chassis number.
With the outriggers I am consenting a pair of the galvanised ones. My initial thought was what is the point of galvanised when you either need to grind or burn off the galv where you weld it. But then I looked at it a different way as if it's galvanised I can concentrate future preservation and treatment to the area of the weld.
I will be using mig for welding and for cutting I have the usual grinders but now also a plasma (thanks Lidl).
I won't be starting this straight away as I need to finish my swivel housings first and the weather is causing havoc with that, however I want to be as prepared as I can be so I can take advantage of any dry periods we may get.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.
Mick
