People who are prepared to put themselves out and do the hours will do alright. If you suggested to many people today that they could work all week then go and work 18hrs days at a weekend as well they would think you'd lost the plot. Many will argue that maybe you shouldn't have to that but those same people are ones moaning they can't afford things. I bet you had a great laugh and it was means to an end. Hope your station was the end of the line or it would have been easy to fall asleep and miss the stop .

I spent a year doing a 300 mile a day commute to my patch, and before that I spent 6 months doing every single bit of extra overtime and standby because we had two mortgages. If I could rewind I would do it all again. You can only do these things when you are young.

Filled up my caravan gas bottle a ‘safefill’ one for £14.70 the other day near where i work. The prices calorgas places charge is a disgrace. The bottle will give us about 10 nights away with heating and cold beer.

Its a chunk cheap than Calorgas exchange to fill an actual steel bottle too. 19kg bottle would be £37 rather than £55 ish for an exchange.

You also dont lose whats left

I phoned Calor and asked if it was ok to run a Calor Super Ser heater in the garage on a refillable bottle and was told it was unsafe . Couldn’t answer why it was unsafe in the the garage but ok for me to sleep three foot above two bottles in the Motorhome.

France & Spain it’s on the forecourt of most of the bigger filling stations, I know it is or was popular in Holland, just never really took off here.

It used to be popular in Holland. Not anymore. Most of the forecourts that sold it in my area don't sell it anymore.
I drove a LandRover serie 2a 88' on lpg for years as a daily driver. Loved it, but somehow I'm glad I quit the LandRover hobby because it's not getting easier to drive oldtimers. I kinda saw that coming.

I have use the Shell service station on the Burford roundabout just outside Cirencester and also John Stayte services on Kingsholm Rd in Gloucester itself, just next to the rugby ground, both relatively recently.

He lives near Malmsbury, The one on the roundabout has gone, the farm services place NRV South Cerney has gone. John Stayte at Stroud still has gas, but it’s getting more difficult now.

Fumes rather than a fire/explosion risk.
Generally the indoor heaters run butane.

Gas leaks are not as dangerous as partially unburnt propane

You’re not supposed to have propane cylinders indoors in a domestic situation, but butane is ok. (LPG is mostly propane).

My MGZT did 100k miles after my diy conversion. It did make less power, in theory the ign should be advanced slightly to compensate but this was impossible because the lpg ecu only controls fuel. Inf I was in 8k overtaking mode I would turn off the aircon and switch to petrol.
One really commical night I took the 16 mile trip (mostly dual carriageway) to fill both tanks, which were really too empty. The silly speed blast took care of the last of the lpg, so I slowed down and hoped the petrol would last. It didn't. So for the next 4 miles I was intermittently weaving (deserted dual carriageway), switching to lpg, etc etc. Coasted into Tenby road filling station - empty...
If Covid and the lockdown hadn't happened, it would still be with us,at a reasonable price. £1.10 to £1.30 a litre is not reasonable, as a road fuel.

I did over 120K on LPG in my Classic Range Rover years. Back then it meant I was getting the equivalent of 25-30mpg. I had mine set up so it ran as good on gas as it did on petrol. I used to regularly talk to people at petrol stations who used to switch to petrol on hills when towing. I never had any of those issues and I drove it really hard. A little bit like EVs today you had to have a strategy for journeys. Fill up when you can not when you need it. Mine was a nice install as I didn't lose any boot space, offroad ability or looks. I have a small auxilary petrol tank tucked under the rear corner and the LPG tanks are mounted on a heavy duty skid where the original tank was.

Fabulous car - quiet, comfortable, no difference beween petrol and gas - but the twin tanks didn't give much ovr 120 mile range. It was wonderful right up until the tinworm kiled it with 197k on the clock.

My question is this tax for London, we know a LP vehicle pollutes very much less (we drive propane forklifts all over the place in warehouses)
you should not have to pay that pollution tax, if on LP.

And....even if the fuel cost's a bit more to use, the negating of that daily tax should more than make up for it.

IE: Your total cost of driving would be less on LP if you had to commute/drive in these high pollution taxed areas.

In the UK if you have a Calor tank for home heating it would be possible to fill a car from it but as there is no fuel duty and reduced VAT it would be illegal. Untraceable as there is no red marker in gas but still illegal.

It's still in my yard and it's not a soft dash

It's got a private plate on it so I'm going to have to get it one road just to remove the plate. Stupidly didn't realise I could have pulled it off I think 18months after the MOT expired.

I think the problem with this, is that almost all vehicles here in the UK are dual fuel. Normally will use petrol (gasoline) to start, then switch over to LPG.

Powers that be would not want to risk you dodging the happiness taxes by running on the wrong fuel.

If the vehicle ran solely on LPG, you might have a case for exemption.

Interesting, in theory you pay road duty at source if you have an lpg tank shared. Then meter what you use for car and get a rebate on the rest. With two tanks you should pay duty on one only, but surely the driver would assign the tickets to each tank, with the duty assigned by the supplier.

On a slightly different note I have looked at a LPG welder generator to replace mine which was stolen
I have mentioned it before , but are getting close to needing machine
Propane cylinders used to be fairly cheap

What did he drive down for ? I was once volunteered for a welding job on a converted Rang Rover. I declined it as I could smell the gas from 5 yards away.

If you stopped the earlier vacuum demand types without switching to petrol you could get a whiff of gas back out of the breather.
