Lowering the power?

Been welding thin metal recently, bodywork.

My welder on the Lowest power setting, and roughly wire speed 6 (nice Sizzling sound, no splatter), Seems to burn through Bodywork somewhat easier than i expected.

My mates got a Welder, on the lowest setting, can sit for about 5 seconds before the weld burns through, mine takes about 1 second to burn through, tad annoying.

Using 0.8mm Wire, C02 "Pub Gas".

Any tips? i Cant physically lower the power anymore as its on the lowest (apart from 0 which turns the welder off)

You need to increase travel speed and aim to weld in short runs, allowing the metal to cool slightly before re starting.

You could try angling the torch so that it is at not such a right angle to the metal, also try pulling the torch which will give you a slightly lesser penetration rather than pushing. For thin metal such as car bodywork I tend to use either the spot weld or stich weld technique to avoid over heating and warping the metal. Don't rush the job try welding a bit at one end then the other allowing the metal to cool off periodically. Good luck.

Is your friend using 0.8 wire and Co2 gas as well? or 0.6 wire and an argon/Co2 mix, which I use and find so much easier.
