Lowering Blocks

For all the landrover purists look away now ,
I have a 4x2 land rover , it never has been or will be offroaded , I bought it as a full tilt and since converted to a canvas truck cab , I want to lower it by 2 inches or so , to make the lowering blocks I need a bit of 100 x 60 thick wall box section or 4 off bits 50mm long as the " frame" of each block , any one in SE Cornwall got any please ,or suggestions on making the blocks , I would think solid aluminium of 100 x 60 x 50 would be prohibitively expensive , any other suggestions more than welcome , one other question , will the prop angle be compromised ?.

I'd "bite the bullet" and buy some aluminium. I bought some to make raising blocks for the sagging back end of a small Honda Acty pick-up when a demountable camper body was carried and an offcut from local alloy merchant wasn't too dear

Not really , it's a 4 X2 , all the minor user friendly mods I have made are reversible with basic tools , original parts retained , my knees are knackered and getting in and out would be a little easier plus I like to think it would look ok, I love driving it , double declutching , etc , if I won the lottery Iwould have a S1 80 inch with truck cab , this is as close I think I could get

It was built as and sold as a 4x2 , 275 sold to war dept in 1959 , had a 90 V9 factory registered CSW, A S2a plus S3, did the off road thing years ago , also have a 1959 fergy to off road in , this is a classic car of the Land rover marque, being mildly tweaked

Consider getting smaller or standard car tyres, but then you would then need to have your speedometer recalibrated. Brought back a memory of seeing an old Rolls Royce in Los Angeles lowered this way, goofiest looking Taco Low-Rider I ever saw; driver too, zoot suit and all. Probably wouldn't look bad on a jeep though.

Have already dropped tyre size from 205 80 r16s to 22565r16s on standard defender tubeless rims , any smaller and it would look top heavy ,

Rare , only about 6 S2 4x2 left , 275 ordered mines no 272 ,

I’m sure I commented on this before

when lowering we just ordered aluminium square stock and cut it to the length as height we wanted

just stick the blocks on top of the axle

You could make the blocks from lengths of 20mm square tube end on and welded into a rectangle.

What about the axle locating peg that protrudes from top of leaf spring and locates in the corresponding seat on underside of the axle? Without this the axle is going to start wanting to move about on the leaf spring.

The lowering blocks will also need the male/female locating dowel incorporated to locate the axle or the axle will move.

Yes have considered that , 13m hole and 13 mm spigot , got all the measurements , 2 inch ally would be ideal,
