Hello,
I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with options at the moment. Basically, I'm in need of a machine that will see use about once every 6 months (if that) for car body panels. Specifically my Classic Mini. The panels are about 1mm thick, but can be as little as .7mm in sections were the metal is stretched. I believe a MIG welder would be best for this kind of work? I'll also be working outside, so I believe this restricts me to gasless welding? I understand this will give a less neat weld that requires more clean-up, but that is fine.
I'm not restoring entire cars. Just doing tiny little jobs. For example my first job will be a butt weld, only about 1cm long. A tiny little job. And after that I have no immediate use for more welding, so will probably sit for quite a while again until another job pops up.
Budget wise I'm not really sure. I don't want to spend big bucks because of the limited use the machine will see, but I don't want to get something that will break after few uses.
I have never welded before. I'm keen learn though, and will get a good amount of practice before I commit to work on the car.
So can anyone recommend me something suitable? There is a lot of information floating around on the web and to be honest I have no idea what's relevant, it's all very confusing!
Many thanks
Dan
