ive seen it done with car rad fans before...mount the fan in the roof above the work area, last few i saw had sheet metal funnels (for want of a better word) to bring the size down to something reasonable, then a piece of ducting bent over 180 degrees so it was pointing down to stop rain getting in. no idea how effective they were and they would likely need a speed controller, but it cant make things worse surely...my work bench in against the long wall, just inside the doors, so if i mounted a fan in the roof at the lowest point, with enough fan speed it should suck fumes away and up then out...I'm not totally sure why, but I don't think that sort of fan is the most appropriate. Most use squirrel cage type but guess you'd gat away with a ducted axial one. Probably pressure characteristics through ducting. The ~12" diameter of a car fan seems a bit overkill for the diameter of a sensible sized duct though!
ive got a car sat waiting for scrap so cant hurt to whip the fan off, stick it on the bench and see how it does...start it up, run a stick rod say 12 inches away and see if it pulls the fumes off...i need to get the injectors, turbo, actuator and alternator off anyway

and brew time
otherwise than that it works well enough
