Hi all,
Apologies as I am aware that this has been posted before but it didn't seem to yield any solutions. I'm running a Murex Challenger 400 for my structural steel fabrication. It's been a great machine but intermittently suffers from the following problem:
I dial in my settings for a nice spray transfer according to my WPS and I get a lovely crisp sound with good readings for my current etc. The frying bacon sound that we are all familiar with.
However at any given moment and without any user alterations to settings, the weld will run almost completely silent or with a slight hum. It then has a tendency to dip in and out of this for as long as it likes. All material is cleaned of mill scale, earth is direct to material, new consumables across the torch don't result in any improvements and my welder(s) regularly clean down the machine with an airline.
I have run welds with it myself and did find that it was more prevalent if the torch was twisted or kinked but that is never the solution to the problem, it just sometimes alleviates it.
Has anyone else experienced this and knows of a solution?
My welder is stored covered but outside so I do wonder if damp can cause this but like I've said it is an intermittent problem, if it was damp it would be constant no?
I appreciate any advice anyone has
Thanks
