Low carbon steel for a sine table

Hello.

I'm building a sine table with 2 plates of 14x19x2cm of low carbon steel (0,15%) because is the material I have.

Probably is not the best option, but is it a suitable material for that purpose? I cant find these plates in a higher carbon content.

Depends what materials you're using it with whether it's suitable or not.

Do you need the carbon content so you can harrden it?

No no.

After machining the parts, it will be finished. But because everybody in youtube (don´t kill me, I "learnt" there) uses medium carbon steels, I had doubts.

Just make it & use it. Youtube is but a guide, not a bible.

Use what you’ve got though if you wanted longterm stability and accuracy you’d want to mill harden and then grind

No no, hardening and grinding is beyond my capabilities.

I´ll do it with that steel. For the saft or axis, I´ll use a 15mm shaft in this configuration



The 2 A parts fix into the B part. A parts are fixed to bottom plate and B is fixed to the upper plate. But working with plates of 190x140mm and 20mm thickness looks that a 15mm shaft made of 1045 steel is very thin. Do tou think it is enought or I would need maybe 20mm?
