Well, I thought I’d be clever and swap the Timing Belt on the Pajero today. Reason being that the water pump decided to spring a leak dumping coolant at an alarming rate.
Bought an entire kit from Evelex, arrived on Friday. Firstly, they’d supplied the wrong Aux Belts despite me giving them full registration and that it was a single pulley alternator.. So another £40 down this morning on Gates belts from the only supplier open today, leaving me to crack on after lunch. That was until I found the balance belt was snapped and the tensioner for the AC was seized solid. Luckily I had a balance belt in the kit ordered, and £3 on a bearing which will be here Monday- not that the AC actually works, but it’s on the list.
So, after fighting to remove the damaged tensioner, random bits of belt and giving up on removing the crank pulley bolt, it seems I’ve lost TDC, and the engine now locks up when turned by hand..YAY
I don’t want to take the head off, as that’ll mean another gasket to replace, but I had thought about pulling cylinder 1 injector out, so I could get it back to TDC, does this sound possible, or am I going to have to remove the head?
Can’t believe I’ve done it, first time in 15 years I’ve messed it up
