Guys.
Am in a situation and don't know what to do.
I sold a car via ebay a couple of months ago.the car belonged to my farther and was in his name. Sent the log book off. Since then I have lost the contact details of the buyer..can't find anything. There is no details on ebay. I am now getting in a lot trouble as parking tickets and Dartford crossing fines are going to my farther as it's still in his name. What the heck do I do......

If you sent the log book off just tell them to contact DVLA it's nothing to do with you. I got a final demand from Derby council for a parking ticket on a car I had sold to a dealer 2 months previously. I wrote to them and told them and they apologised

the new owner obviously hasnt registered it on purpose...I second calling DVLC, they are very good when you eventually get through.

Contact DVLA. They are a good help when you have got through. Get hold of the E bay page, print a copy, get hold of a copy of any bank action to back up the sale. Banks are very good at this.

Flea bay should help provide the details of the buyer, don't hold your breath on E bay.

The fines should have collection department, contact them explain the situation and they should have an appeal method.

Hard work, but as you said you sent the log book of, DVLA are a good start.

You no longer need to send the V5 off when you sell the vehicle. Just use that service.

After having a trickster trying it on by giving a false address I would always now use that link with the buyer in front of me. Once you complete it then the vehicle is in their name and if they get a ticket on the way home it's going to their house not yours!

It' a bit late, but I would always take a photo of the log book before sending off to DVLA, just incase something like this happened, it's all done on line now, no need to send of V5 anymore.
From your email/ebay/paypal history you should be able to trace back something as evidence you sold the car.

I would also give crossing control a call and put them in the picture. They might pick him up since he's defrauding them of their tolls.

Err, hang on. If you sold it via eBay you have the guys details. They are automatically made available to you for every transaction.

I sold a vehicle on 6th December and just received confirmation from dvla today it's no longer registered us, so you should have had word by now

After my son getting caught best part of 12 months after he sold the car on via a dealer for not taxing it, I photo copy the v5 & send it registered post. The dealer sent the paper work off that evening, the other vehicles there was no problem with. When my son contacted DVLA, the girl unofficially admitted that the loss of the paperwork was probably within their office, but officially this doesn't happen & there is no way out of paying the fine. £30 I think it was.

Because of the time delay between selling the car & the DVLA contacting him, the new owner must have taxed the car once in the meantime, also I'm assuming that the dealer must have sent in the new owners name as well!

That's not really an option any more.

It's now the seller's responsibility to complete and subsequently send off the v5 (or do online) - the buyer should no longer take anything other than the green 'new keeper' section away with them.

the last guy I sold a iveco tipper to, well yes he was one of the "boys" lets say to be polite, he tried exactly that, I will get the misses to post that for you...had to insist quite strongly I would do it myself. he went away happy enough though.

Right I just checked and yes you should be able to get the address from the eBay transaction.

In My ebay go down to Sell, then click Sold. Find your car sale and over on the right, click more actions - view order details. The address is there on the right.

It's so easy to do it online too, I can't understand why anyone bothers trying to use the paper V5 and post it to Swansea given how good they(and the post office) are at losing things.

Look at your sold items on Ebay (I'm not sure how long they keep history), find the car you sold, then I use "print postage label" to get the buyers address info.

TBH the eBay auction is the perfect evidence of sale. Take a screenshot of the page with the address and use it to fend off fines and PCN's.

Have been in touch with dvla.. it's in progress of being sorted..and managed to find the ebay details on the sale.so I now have the proof needed...thanks for the help
