lost and found

When I got my first Landrover decades ago I didn't reckon the brakes were up to much and when I had a look I found a hose clamp on rear flexi. Needless to say the garage didn't get it back. And the vehicle came with a brand new MOT.

I think I've set some kind of record. I lost something and do not remember what is is. I thought to make a list of all the tool boxes and drawers that I've searched when I had time, to avoid duplicating searches. Now I've forgotten what it was.

20 years ago I kept misplacing the garage keys so a mate screwed a hook in a joist just inside the door and by habit now I hang them up as I walk in. Doesn't always work as I lost them for three days once and turned the place upside down looking for them, just could not find them. Went to the motor factors and back in the car and found the keys as I reversed into the drive, they were hanging in the garage door lock! Luckily, none of my thieving git neighbours had seen them either.

i had to attach an old cd to the shed keys so its shiny enough and big enough to stick out like a saw thumb where ever it gets left as it was misplaced so often.

My uncle John lost the ends of 3 fingers.
I think at least 2 went in the kibbler in separate incidents.
He must have forgotten where he lost the first one to deliberately stick another finger in the same machinery.​

I'd lost the length of train track I use as an anvil... Dug it up in the garden this morning.

My ex's grandfather lost the end of his right thumb sawing logs on a crappy old saw bench driven by a lawn mower engine, about 8 years later he did the same with his left thumb!

I lost my magnetic rechargeable torch I searched high and low for it without luck about 3 months later I was layed underneath the back of the l200 and there it was still stuck to the tub floor so it had been riding round the countryside recharged it and it still works

when i worked in a garage it wasnt unusual for people to leave a car booked in for a service outside the front shutter and slide the keys under.
we had an astra parked up with one of those crook locks on that hooked onto the steering wheel and under the clutch pedal, the key for the car and the key for the crook lock must have been on a seperate key ring as we only found the car key but couldnt find the crook lock key when we opened up in the morning.
we called the owner who assured us the one and only key for the crook lock had been pushed under the shutter with the car key.
we searched but couldnt find it anywhere.
so the owner gives us permission to remove it and we carried on with the work.
when we closed up for the night we manually pulled down the shutters to close up and low and behold stuck to the magnet on the shutter for the alarm reed switch was the crook lock key
we had looked everywhere but up!

one of my old works had a foot long length of skirting board attached to the workshop key , never bothered to ask ......

Of all the things ive lost I miss my mind the most.


Im terrible in the garage.
Take a part out of the lathe and put it down. 2 minutes later its vanished.
Same for veneers pencils tape measures hammers.
