We had a new chief engineer come aboard a ship I was working on, young and full of beans, he wanted to make his mark….
First major job was cleaning out and painting the bilges in the engine room and compressor room. They not been touched for years on this particularly ship, though they are meant to be as layers of thick old oil and dirt are a fire hazard.
You’d not believe the huge pile of tools, spare parts, pens, coins, safety glasses, ear defenders, etc, that were dug out of the 2” thick layer in the bilges.

well knacked 20 quid down the drain told him to get me new ones and he wouldnt . got me own back on him just nicked more of his gear of him and siphoned some petrol out of his van i was 14 quid up on the deal in the end
bought a new one 12 quid and used it twice , was rooting through some boxes in the house and found the other 2 .our lass said she had put them safe for me
