If you are going to hire a trailer you may as well get a tilt bed, it would make unloading a breeze.

thats the way to lift , use spreaders

You can’t really see it but I designed an ‘H’ spreader above the top of the load, and 2 below so that the webbing slings come 200mm out past the body before they go up to meet the 4-way brothers on the hook.

Worked well.

If you read the post then I suspect he's worried about the wind on the drive with an empty lorry body on a trailer rather than once it's in place. I suspect his easiest route would involve the Severn Bridge which can be damn unpleasant when the wind is up.

Yep, my biggest concern is crosswinds, Severn Bridge is quickest route and it can be interesting when the wind is up

At the moment you'll probably find it a breeze . The new crossing has some good windbreaks on it and the only time I've felt nervous was towing the 110 behind my old Range Rover in a gale on a fairly tall trailer. They shut the bridge an hour after I crossed it to all vehicles (certainly lorries) which was quite unusual.

Put a new lathe and milling machine in the back for ballast

It's happened, found an 18' tilt bed trailer for hire locally

Drove to Winchester today to collect, they loaded it with a fork lift

Lots of ratchet straps over the top and on the frame underneath and got it back to Wales with no dramas



Its big!

Took it to a mates farm for now while I get the groundwork finished at my lockup

As its a tilt bed, dragged the body back so it overhung the rear of the trailer

Tiled the bed so the box body was on the ground, strap under the roller shutter door end, lift it with the tractor forks and pull the trailer away, easy

And the fuel consumption on the journey back to Wales was abysmal

We used to just lift them with lifting straps and two over head cranes, so you could pull straight up when we did body swaps, they aren't a static caravan they are strong enough. Lifting from one point like that you want something to keep the straps apart.

@outofthefire we went under the front with a strap, around the rails that run the length of the body so was triangular and no issues
