No it works off 2 of the 3 ph on 400v and can also work on just 1ph on 230v.

The pic of the plug is only of the adaptor, its just a 5 pin 16 amp red plug and socket with a fly lead to a 16 amp shucko continantal plug, but i will post it when i have found it on my phone

How is this machine compared to Kemppi Kempomat machines, I guess you have used both matt. Might be stupid to ask a LORCH salesman about that question but I'll try..

Kemppi are good machines. I have never used the Kempomat units, but I don't think that have Synergic facility as does the M-Pro.

I'm in the process of ordering a Lorch M-Pro 253 Basic Plus from R-Tech (I could have gone direct to Matt, or to Weldequip, but school are funny about opening new accounts), and if there's stock in the UK, I should have it at the beginning of next week.

I had considered Kemppi machines, but based on what I read here, and on the internet in general, I'm quite certain that I won't be dissapointed with the Lorch.

Having the semi synergic machine at school will give the kids an opportunityto see what the latest technology has to offer, and to use a machine that they might not get an opportunity to learn to use anywhere else. I also like the idea of asking the kids (and myself) to set up the machine for a given task, and then switching over to synergic mode to see how far off their (my) initial settings were.

Can't wait.

P.S. while I was on the phone to R-Tech, I also ordered a Plasma 40, Compressor, Circle cutting kit ....

Thanks Matt, it arrived yesterday, but I've not had a chance to try it out as yet. I have however, had a good look around the machine, and I'm very impressed. The build quality is typically German i.e. brick s**thouse standard!!

If first impressions are anything to go by, it's very likely that I and this Lorch Machine will become good friends.

Well, I finally managed to set up the Lorch M-Pro 252 this morning (I spent last night playing with my new Plasma cutter) and although I didn't get much chance to test it thoroughly, I'm VERY IMPRESSED!!! As I mentioned yesterday, the build quality, fit and finish are second to none, it's like driving a Bentley.

I'll post a short review with a few pics over the weekend, but breiefly, this is how it went.

I firstly set the material thickness to 3mm, and tried a straight run on 3mm plate, the result was a perfect bead that showed really good penetration and a nice weld profile with no spatter. Nice!!

I then decided that I'd try to test this machine out, so I dug out some 0.9mm material fron the sheetmetal scrap bin, and welded a lap joint, Just a straight 6" weld, no weaving, no stop/start, and again, perfect! I'll try a butt joint tomorrow.

So on to the other end of the spectrum, I set the material thickness to 6mm, and ran a 6" bead on 6mm plate. For the first inch or so, i found that the machine was set too high compared to hat I'm used to, but it turned out that I was just going too slowly (bloody namby pamby teacher), once I adjusted my welding speed, I managed to produce an almost perfect run, and again with no spatter.

Please don't think that I'm blowing my own trumpet by calling these welds "perfect", it's definately not down to the operator (hey I'm just a school teacher that doesn't get that much real world welding practice) but this machine really does help produce bloody impressive welds by setting the weld parameters just about bang on each and every time!

Yes it's a fairly high end machine, but I firmly believe that it's not that much more expensive than some other "brand name" machines, and the performance it offers is very very impressive! If you're in the market for a fairly high end welder, you needn't look any further, this has to be the machine for you.

As I said earlier I'll run some test pieces tomorrow and post pics over the weekend.

I'm looking forward to the review and pictures. I tried a smaller version of that welder during the forum meet and I liked it a lot, though I also felt it wanted me to go a little faster than I normally would. I'm also an occasional user and sometimes don't weld for months.

That's not a criticism of the welder at all - I guess these things are programmed for people who weld day in day out and do things properly, and there seemed to be loads of scope for doing things your own way on the manual settings (very thin metal etc). Just I only had a short time to play with the welder so I'd be very interested in experiences from a similar view point.

Yes Malcom, that's exactly what I found, the machine is set up for pro welders that don't hang about! I tried a 6mm tee fillet weld today (root and split cap), with the welder set to it's 6mm setting, and I just couldn't keep up, my welds were all over the place. Setting the machine to it's 4mm setting (the next step down) suited me fine, and I managed to produce a pretty neat weld with plenty of penetration. As you mention Malcon, this was purely due to my lack of experience, I'm sure that any production welder would easily cope with the machine at full tilt.

I also tried a number of butt welds in 0.9mm sheet, and I must be honest, I failed miserably, blowing holes at will, again due to my inexperience/lack of practice. I then tried a simple straight run on the sheet and the Lorch performed beautifully, the same was also true for lap welds.

Unfortunately however I didn't manage to take any photos as I had classes that I had to teach all day. I'll try and have another go next week, and I promise this time that I'll take pictures and document the process!
