Looking for bearings

The central heating burner got noisy a few weeks ago, and i dismantled it. The oil pump was toast, so i replaced it. This quietened it down and it was fine. Starts making noise again last week and it turns out the fan motor bearings are toast too.

Took the motor apart today and took the bearings to the bearing factors, where i was quoted, for 6202 bearings, a very common size, nearly 70 euros + vat ! I have bought good quality 6202's before for less than a tenner inc vat.

The reason they are so expensive, the counter guy told me is they are for high temp use. When i asked him how he knew that, he told me because of the codes. 6202 P6 3E.

The P6 is running tolerance, and 3E is reinforced ball set. So how he reckons they are for high temp use i don't know.

So if anyone can put me onto 2 off 6202 P6 3E, of good quality for not silly money, please contact me. Yes i have looked online, but all i can see are standard 6202 bearings.

Thanks all, i might give philipM's link a go and see what they are like, Its odd the motor makers would spec such expensive bearings, when the ordinary ones are 1/10th the cost.

I replaced the bearings on the boiler fan at our old house, same size, completely standard, and they were fine over a year later when we moved out.

nasty bay seems to work . a lot of special things that arn't that special do however get extra special markup

If that were mine, I'd be trying a standard set first. They'll last or they won't, but worst case scenario, you end up replacing them twice. At least you'll know whether standards work or not, either way. I'd be thinking you'd have to be looking at silly high temperatures for them to fail quickly.

Yes i think you are all right, how hot can a motor get really ? It can not get that hot or the insulation on the wiring would deteriorate or simply melt away. I don't think they need to be that special for what they do, spin a small diameter fan.

I've replaced oil burner fan bearings with decent quality run of the mill Koyos, etc, and never had any premature failures.
