Folks.

There's a thread I've read somewhere on here about what size box section fits inside bigger box, but I'll be hanged if I can find it. I've a project that might come to fruition over Christmas that involves sliding fit box sections, so if anyone could point me to the thread, I'd be most appreciative :hug:

What sizes are you wanting to fit in to eachother ? Should be fairly simple to work out with wall thicknesses and so on. For example. 25mm internal with 2.5 wall thickness = 25 + 2.5 x 4 = 35. Correct me if I’m wrong but that seems the logic thing to me? Also take into account the other parts thickness.

It would be 25 +2.5 x 2 but box section is usually measured externally so more likely to be 25 -2.5 x 2 which would give you 20mm internal which is a good sliding fit for 19mm external as long as the welded seam doesn't stick too much but it usually fits alright.

This is a question I am asked daily when I'm contracting at ESTS.

12 x12 sq bar fits inside ⅝" ERW box, 20 x 20 fits snuggly inside 25 X 25 X 2, the next size is 30 x 30 inside 40 x 40 x 4 after that 50 x 50 fits inside 60 x 60 x 4

20Ø bar fits nicely inside 26.9Ø CHS
