I am not really understanding what you mean by the items being too small and light, the machine you have bought is a hobby welder and as such the torch and fittings are going to be fairly basic and not heavy duty.
I use a Clarke with it's standard torch, shroud and tips on 2mm up to 5mm steel using 0.8 wire and never have any problems at all with it, laying welds as good as my previous and lot more expensive Portamig did.
how are you going through tips and shrouds at that rate ?The reason why I want to change it is, I have about 60 tips and about 10 shrouds from when I had my wolf welder, and they don't fit this welder (they are bigger) and they seem a better quality, and I go through lots of tips and at least one shroud in about 3 weeks (maybe I am just a crap welder) and I have a massive job coming up this autumn, I am converting my MK1 caddy pick up truck for wheelchair access and am lowering the bed section, so I can see me going through lots of gear.
It is nice to know there are some locals in the area
Thanks for the advice and names of suppliers in team valley

I,m just not good at welding I guesshow are you going through tips and shrouds at that rate ?
are you holding the torch too close ? what is happening to the shroud ?I,m just not good at welding I guess
Yes CLEAN them out when they are fullthat seems like a lot of consumables...do you clean the shrouds out when they get full of spatter or just throw them and put a new one on? same for tips.
when i was using gasless wire in my sealey whenever the tips got full of spatter and the wire was dragging i used to run a .8mm drill thgouh by hand to clear them out, pull the spatter off the outside by ahnd or a wire brush then chuck it back in and weld again

Yes I think that it is to close ,have all ways done that can not help it, I am burning the shroud outare you holding the torch too close ? what is happening to the shroud ?

i think i would start practising to hold it further away you will probably get better results and wont overheat the torch eitherYes I think that it is to close ,have all ways done that can not help it, I am burning the shroud out
I tried holding it further away from the metal and it works a lot better thanksare you holding the torch too close ? what is happening to the shroud ?
not to mention cheaperI tried holding it further away from the metal and it works a lot better thanks
