Looking for a good car welder

Looking for a good car welder or anyone know of a good welder preferably within a few hours of Aberdeen. I want to get welding done on my old Volvo 142; rear sills, rear arches and there’s welding on one front inner wing and probably around the front panel. Looking for someone who does quality work.

Will then probably get the car painted so a mini resto.

If you have space is it not a great diy project for over the winter ,,, be very wary of folk who say they can weld cars . Lots say they can and they do and it will mot , but it may not be up to the standards you expect , I sort out a lot of '' farmers sons'' welding and some of it makes me weep ,,, but at the time it was done it got an mot and was cheap, being able to weld , and knowing what to weld are two totally different things. And you will also need some one who can make the parts in case there are no replacement panels available , thats a different kettle of fish too . Not much help , but something to think about , if you do find some one , make sure you see some of the work they have done before , most folk will have a few pics , even I take the odd pic now and then and most of the time I dont take my phone out of my car when Im welding as it just fills with iron dust and stops working.
Nice car too of course.

I know a guy who got his Sierra Cosworth welded and I think he was very happy with the job done. It was Dundee though so maybe a bit far but if you want I can ask him the name the next time I see him.

I was actually trying to be helpful, without actually knowing of a suitable place, but fair enough and apologies if I was stating the obvious!

Having followed with interest your previous threads on the tank, have you given up welding?

Forgot all about it until I saw the guy today. He said he is not sure if the guy still does restorations or not as he is pretty busy making panels up for VW Campers.
He is going to ask him and see and if so will pass on the details if you still need.
Oh the other thing is he said he wasn't fast so that may or may not be an issue.

The guy that had his car done said there was someone up your way that gets a good name but he has not used him so can't say from personal experience.
I forgot who he said but can ask if you want?

Maybe he’s changed but he totally bodged another resto I paid him good money for. For example welded on the rear arches straight over the old ones, never cut out any rust just patched over or slapped on filler to hide it. And he hid a lot the so and so. Would never go back there and would never recommend anyone go there.

might be worth asking the aberdeen and district motor club guys who they use, might get more recent recommendations. I used to use the wee garage down Urquhart lane, off king street, but that was over 20 years agao, so couldn't say if they were still any good or not.
If not there was Ricky Gauld out in the back of Huntly, he was the guru of tuning and the rolling road and has done a lot of amazing restoration / rebuilds of competition cars over the years, he might be able to help point you in the direction of someone.
