I am looking for a folding bike for my daughter to use in uni.
It has to be a folding one to fit in the lift in her building.
Has anyone got any suggestions of a good make that wont break the bank.
We bought a couple of cheap Chinese ones from ebay. They were seconds and had a slight fault on the front brake which took all of 30 minutes to fix. Look on bicycles4u to see what they have unless you want Brompton or Dahon quality. I would recommend you get a minimum 20" wheel if she has any distance to ride.
I've had a few. My advise is look for a Dawes Kingpin (wonderful bike - I gave mine to a friends daughter who was at uni) or Raleigh Twenty. Moulton are nice bikes as well but possibly too dear. Currently I've got a Raleigh RSW16 and although they made folders the weight might be too much.
After the experience of several (actually I've had 15 - bought job lot of 13 brand new electric versions plus two non electric bought another time) Chinese folding bikes my advise is avoid. They look "value for money" but poor quality components, rust as soon as the air gets damp and need constant attention to stay in top form.

what wrong with doing like lots of other people do for bikes in lift
push bike into lift then lift front wheel up in the air so bike stands upright in the lift on the back wheel with front wheel resting on lift wall
i bet that's what all the others will do
