Looking for a 220mm Pipe Clamp

Ok I've got a job where i have to join 2 x 220mm tubes and i need to ideally hire a pipe clamp or if its not expensive buy one.

They look like these

have looked on ebay with no luck

If its a one off job why not tack some flats to one side of the tube and a couple of big clamps on them?

Try your local agricultural type supplier or give howburn a PM he can get all sorts of bits like that

Its the round tube on a lift shaft (Glass Lift) so the tubes are visable i don't want tacks or grind marks on the tubes, I have about 30 3 metre tubes to line up and weld.

So ideally i need the real thing as opposed to making something up

I don't think that would look professional on site in London somehow You need to remember these tubes weigh about 200kgs each and i need to position them vertically and level before i tack them ready for welding

If it was something to do in the workshop, by myself then i would probably knock something up, but as its being installed on site, then you have all the H&S rules come into play

EDIT: Need to find a way to take it off though

This is simmilair to the type I have used in the past and it gives you the ability to adjust the pipe to get it aligned.

How about 2 or 3 bits of 80mm angle and a couple of ratchet straps? Position the angle like splints and then tighten the straps up. You could attach the buckle to one of the bits of angle and feed the loose strap end back in and tighten it all up. Maybe have some slots in the angle to feed the strap through to stop it all falling down the lift shaft!
It all seems easy enough in my head but It's probably harder to explain than it is to make it!

I'm with you now. Theres a few on ebay, but not quite what you are after. I've a lot of stuff left over from when i worked in utilities. I'll have a look but i think most of the decent stuff has been used/sold.

If you search on ebay, try the search term 'Wask'. They make a lot of equipment for the utilities as some times people list them as just Wask as that is the name stamped on them, but they don't know what they are. Non at the moment but there has been lately. May be worth searching completed listings, see if any were unsold and contacting the buyer.

When i have done stuff like that in the past, i have welded 4 flats inside the tube, flush with the inside wall and cranked in slightly. Asuming wall thicknesses are constant, simply drop the tube on and it is ready-aligned. Saves a lot of fighting big lumps of CHS at height

Another edit - There's a clamp on eBay. Just put "pipe alignment clamp" into the search and go to the bottom of the page. 9-12", £135 + postage, and a 5-8" one for £99 + post (not sure which one you'd need, as your job's halfway between the two... ).
