I had to take the front subframe off the clio4 that I swapped the engine in. I just lowered the subframe/motor/transaxle package down onto a wheeled dolly sat on the floor between the runways and lifted the car off it. Same technique to remove engine/box/subframe from daughters 207. Later on I took the subrame & box off the 207 to rebuild the gearbox and left the engine in situ using the engine beam fore and aft on the rolling bridge to support the motor in situ but give me room to take the box out to rebuild it.What put me off the four-poster was having done a couple of Freelander 1 Td4 clutch replacements, where you have to drop the front subframe. It didn’t look possible on a four poster, and that’s at least partly why I went for a two-poster. I might be wrong, though.
The only things I work on that I wish I could put on it but can't are the forklift, and thats because its 3.5t and very narrow track & if you slide the runways inwards to accomodate the track, it weighs well over the rating for that runway spacing so I would have to remove the counterweight off first and thats a faff for just lifting something up so easier to drive up small ramps onto cribbing, and the lawn mower, and thats because it has 3 wheels, so there's no runway in the middle for the middle wheel. I could probably anchor the rear to the rolling bridge or something, but I just pick it up with the forklift and set it on tall stands instead.
The takeaway from that for me is dont buy a 4 post if you have a robin reliant, a trike or work on odd lawn mowers a lot.
