Looking at buying generator welder

I am looking at buying generator welder as mine Was stolen it was a Harrington spitfire 200 dc.
Excellent machine but this firm no longer exists, there are plenty other makes though and I would say they are all very similar using same engines and generators .. I have seen one which caught my attention and that is a vanguard powered by propane but is cheaper to run ?
Also I was surprised to see that a 200 amp machine will only weld 8mm max

200amps stick will weld more than 8mm

Is 200 amps full chat? You might want to look at duty cycle, you can weld any thickness steel with 90 amps..just takes more passes!!
More amps thicker rod less time

All the Honda GX series can be converted to propane. It's a pretty simple kit - basically
- an adaptor block to pipe the LPG into the carb (you turn the petrol tap off to cut the unleaded and the Carn needs to he drained or run dry first - and you retain the ability to use petrol)
- a Garritson valve (basically a vacuum valve that shuts the gas off without the induction vacuum from a running engine for safety
- some orange flexi gas pipe
- a 37mB Regulator.
I recall that you need to run a smaller plug gap on lpg (a crude but effective way to retard the ignition enough to try to alleviate pinking and running too hot/lean & burning the exhaust valve out.
Simple and pretty effective

It can, as mentioned, but it would likely invalidate the warranty.

I am undecided because a petrol genny will be more practical but I don’t want my new one to disappear like the last which means it will need to be kept in house which is not a good idea with petrol but a propane cylinder can be removed also I have found 4 empty cylinders which I can have free
I will think on it for a short while

Did you buy the honda petrol welder after
