Hello everyone finally got my mig welder going, it was the reason i joined the forum a fair while ago
As you can see it got a little bashed in transit, one of the reasons i took so long to get it going was fear it was dead on arrival, and the fact i bought it off ebay unseen .
So wind forward to today i got myself a 10l sgs cylinder, some 0.8 wire, ifl-xls helmet and a pair of gloves and laid down some beads on a old crt tv bracket that was lying around which i assume is 2mm thick
Pretty much ran out of space on my test piece and it was 10pm so couldnt grind a new clean spot, i dont think they look too bad but how should i know first time mig welding comments wanted including harsh ones
The bit i am concerned about it the amount of brown soot i am getting around the welds the above picture was wire brushed between runs not so clean one below
From other threads on here is would point to lack of shielding gas and i have another pic of the regulator
i know its banged up to 19lpm in the pic but with the torch trigger pressed it drops to around 9/10lpm, the gas is the 95% argon 5%co2 sgs cylinder. I do hear a whoosh sound when i pull the trigger so the solenoid is working, this likely to be down to my torch position and angle?
Last pic of the rear side of the sheet didnt have a whole lot of penetration so guess i should bump the current up a bit?
