Long term review of my heater

No not the Chinese Eberspacher type although I also have one of those.

My inverter kerosene heater.
This type - although mine is the 4.5kw model.

If you are looking to heat a draughty workshop or garage I really recommend one of these.
I have mentioned it on here on the past and been po pooed by people who have never used one! And we all know what happens to po pooers

Advantages

Very cheap to run on Kerosene - works out at 1/4 the cost of electric
Can be run on an extension - current consumption tiny
Safe
Full heat output to room as no exhaust
Almost silent
Clean - not messy at all
No installation needed

Disadvantages
Needs a bit of ventilation or draught - not a lot just a bit
Smells on start up and shut down - just a few minutes

I obviously have a few carbon monoxide detectors dotted around just in case.
We run it for 60 hours a week.
Supposed to run on premium Parrafin but that is expensive and it is just as good on modern low sulphur kerosene.
If I was back in my draughty old farmhouse I wouldn't hesitate to use it at home as well.

Shouldn’t recommend running combustion appliances (especially flueless ones) on the wrong fuel.

Tip
Don't let the thermostat work - whack the heat right up. Otherwise it stinks as it keeps starting and stopping all the time.
There is a minimum setting which keeps it ticking over.
It is keeping a 600sq foot kitchen/toilet area nice and warm even though the warehouse is at 4C!

It is a Kerosene heater!
Not the wrong fuel.
Modern kero is low sulphur.
I have actually USED both fuels -= no difference at all.

Home heating kerosene is C2 not C1
We’ve been here before but as a heating engineer and previous designer of oil fired equipment I’m not comfortable with your recommendation of using a fuel not intended for flueless appliances.

I am sure the fumes are no worse than the stuff that goes on in a typical garage/workshop.

And a million times better than 1 of these

Mine is the 4.5kw model.
The tank holds 7 litres and lasts about 16 hrs. I buy 1000L of kero at a time for about £0.48p per litre so about £12 - £14 a week.
Great if you have oil heating at home as well. If not some rural petrol stations have kero pumps you can fill jerry cans with.

I have had to clean it twice in 2 years - there is a combustion pot inside. Take it out and clean it with a wire brush on a drill. Pretty easy.

I am very sensitive to fumes - even diesel cars in front of me make me cough and sneeze. I can't stand the fumes from calor type heaters and I refuse to use garage type space heaters but these really are fine in a bigger room with some draughts or crack open a window an inch.

Cheers fizzy yes we use heating oil at the house father buys it 2500 litres at a time when the price is down, may have to speak to father regarding one of these, as I think he could make use of this, then I can borrow it.

The fuel tank. You can remove and refill whilst running.
You can see how much the window is cracked open for ventilation.
Obviously don't use in a bedroom and have a CO alarm handy!
