all I want it for is in case I fall over while trying to manoeuvring it with my wife on the back.. example parking up or if my knees give way.

If that happend with Mrs. ZX9 on the back I would be more worried by the weeks of ear bending.

nah I've got a good lass ,she understand all that.
she even said if it happens it happens nothing we can do about.
you don't stop living in case of eventualities.
and if we start thinking like that then we might as well wrap our selves in cotton wool blah blah.
well that what she said and I agree and 20 years we are still here and intact.

couldn't get the 12mm bolts in 1.25 pitch. but can in 1.75 pitch which is no good.
so I re-used existing bolts.the thread has gone in about 18mm which left about 2mm to 3mm bare thread at the end.the whole threaded bit is about 20mm on all 4 points.
do you recon this will be ok?
I think so but I'm no expert on these things.

I say you'd be alright. You should be able to get those fasteners in 12.9 socket caps. I got some for my bike engine, in three different lengths.

Try Clerkenwell Screws - I walked in there and got M12 x 1mm nuts off the shelf, much to my surprise.

I think so but I'm no expert on these things.

With approx. 18mm of thread being in contact, you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever.
