Yea the MG ZS was their EV...I quite liked it. Was just about to order one when I enquired about the passenger seat that I couldn't figure out. Glad I asked...shame as it ruined an otherwise sensible buy.

That seems to be a thing now. My dad wanted to replace his old Q3 with a newer one, but you can only get lumbar support in the seat on the highest trim level. (Which he didn't want, due to some funny colour scheme or something.)

He bought a Tiguan instead, which has an electric driver's seat, but a manual passenger seat.

Exciting update from my European client visit the last couple of days:

641 miles, around 14 hours driving in all on top of a long work day each day.

I've got to say I'm impressed by the 5 series - not great on fuel doing £106 in diesel but the M-Sport seats were really good - no fidgeting about after a couple of hours to ease numb-bum.

All in all and excluding the poor fuel economy, it's probably one of the best long distance tourers I've had. No complaints from the passengers either... Well, aside from the dodgy European radio stations.

Some of the 4 door pickups fit i to this catergory too, something to do with weight.

D2 commercial was 60mph on the dual carriageway, my L200 was PLG but not dual purpose so also 60

The leather or faux leather is like plastic in some of the BMWs horrible stuff

I'm not too disappointed but the fuel was getting on for half of the milage money.

It's not too bad in there - the BMW brochure says leather but I'm dubious. Not dubious enough to get a knife on it to find out!

Yes and no...

From the perspective of my V40 D4 doing 58 ish mpg it's not great. From the perspective of a 300+ bhp, 2000 kg estate car it's quite good.

From an expenses angle, more mpg = more better. Schlepping across Europe with a boot full of equipment was likely less tiresome with the estate though.

I used to quite like driving big engine diesels...they just tick over on the motorway.

Big issue I found with diesels is the complexity...when they go wrong they seem to be expensive to fix. I had a £1.5k dpf bill once on a relatively new VAG car which really did put me off them!

Had a similarly eye watering bill on my diesel Volvo...DMF replacement.

£1.5k buys quite a bit of petrol!

I ran a 3.0 shogun MK2.
That did 18mpg *at best*
It was more expensive per mile on LPG than the Lexus 3 litre was on petrol

I'd still have another one, tomorrow if I could afford the fuel
Comfortable, and safe, and reliable.
0-60 in the "nahhh bruv" range, but it didn't matter if it was full, empty, towing a trailer or tied to a wall - it just trundled along.
I was running NHS workers to the local hospital in it one year - only thing that got through (couple of detours up paths on the way to get round stuck vehicles).

No good for a 500 mile round trip commute, though - I estimate it would cost the best part of £250 per round trip.


Anyway - the point is...
After owning that, any mpg figure over 20 doesn't seem too bad.

The *only* thing that diesels do better is economy. *Everything* else is better with a petrol engine.
